In February 2014 The Point began holding worship services in Greene County as a multisite extension from their campus in Charlottesville. We were one church in two different locations, and we saw God move in incredible ways with both campuses experiencing new salvations and baptisms, record attendance for Sunday worship, healthy group multiplication, and increasing kids and student ministries, among many other joys! For everyone involved it was a season of ministry that has forever branded our story of God using broken vessels for His glory and our good.
This weekend we transition from functioning as a campus to being a new, young church plant. In God's timing and provision, this church plant is possible because of the strategic investment of Pastor Gabe Turner, the abundant generosity of the entire Point family, and the fulfilled prayers of former generations in Greene asking God to build His Church in this region! As a daughter church of The Point, we minister with a strong partnership in the gospel with our sending church, and we hope this is one church plant of many within this area -- north/south on Rt 29 and east/west on I-64.
The birth of this church is an exciting step of obedience for everyone involved! It is one moment in the timeline of God's global Church to continue the work that began with Jesus and 12 disciples. This entire experience teaches us that Jesus desires to take His transforming message to this region and to the uttermost parts of the world. We simply need to have open hearts like Isaiah who responded to God with "Here am I. Send me."
