Amicus road academy.

A road for life, learning & friendship

The vision of Nehemiah rebuilding the wall of Jerusalem inspires us to build into our childrens’ lives by providing a Godly education, to restore the places that are crumbling, to strengthen the faith of our future generations.  As a group of like-minded Christians, we seek to:

  • Support K-12 home school families by offering classes 1 to 2 days per week

  • Offer morning core classes in literature, math, science, & history as well as electives in art, music, & engineering.

  • Build community through shared assembly, lunchtimes, and rotating afternoon interest groups

  • Extend into our larger community through field trips, physical exercise, and service opportunities

We aim to build Christ’s legacy for future generations. One of the best ways to accomplish that mission is by investing in a child’s education from a Christian worldview.
— Pastor Adam Schwenk, Ph.D.

We rely on the work of the Holy Spirit to direct and enable us to teach our children Biblical truths and to foster a love of learning about God’s created world.  Through earnest prayer, we strive to be a place where children look forward to coming each week and where the love of Christ is experienced.

As a ministry of Legacy Church, our homeschool academy operates under the authority of its leadership, and our teachers adhere to a Statement of Christian Faith.  As Believers, it is our desire to know Christ and be conformed to His image through the power of the Holy Spirit.  We teach and serve from a Biblical worldview, and families who participate are expected to honor and respect the tenets of our faith.

Our 2024-25 school year will run from September through May, providing 30 weeks of classes divided into 6-week sections with a Sabbath rest week after each.  We are currently forming a co-op board of leaders to facilitate the details of registering students and organizing our co-op.

Jennifer Miller
Amicus Road Academy Director

Jennifer has been surprised by homeschooling in so many ways, first that her family even began homeschooling ten years ago, and second that through their imperfect homeschooling journey the Lord has provided so much joy and connection. She graduated from The College of William & Mary with majors in English Literature and Elementary Education and later earned an M.Ed. in Reading Education from the University of Virginia. She taught for over a decade in local public schools as a kindergarten teacher, first grade teacher, and reading specialist. She and her husband Peter were married in 1998 and have four children.
